To help you better navigate the Fig Tree Library resources, here are some common markings to consider.

*PLEASE BE AWARE THAT AS THE LIBRARY IS BEING SET UP NOT ALL RESOURCES HAVE BEEN PROPERLY MARKED AND CATEGORIZED AT THIS TIME. WE ARE STILL WORKING ON IT*

Consumables

Some resources donated to the library are not suitable for repeated circulation. Consumable items are marked with the barcode of “1” and are not expected to be returned to the library. If you do not use the item we’re always happy to have it donated back, but you are free to keep and use consumable items as your own. The should also be designated with a “(consumable)” at the end of the book title.

White Dot

All items under the curriculum category will have a white dot on the upper right corner of the cover. These items are checked out for one school year and are due back July 1st of the following year unless renewed. White dot items are specifically dedicated to educational usage including teacher manuals, student texts, flash cards, and more along with select literature that correlates with specific curriculum reading lists.

Reproducible

Items that can be reproduced legally should have “reproducible” written on the cover and the permission text from the publisher will be highlighted in the front cover. Please DO NOT WRITE IN ANY BOOKS from the Fig Tree Library. Reproducible workbooks are expected to be returned in the same condition they were checked out.

Purple Dot

Purple dot items are specifically dedicated to parents and educators. These items focus on parent enrichment, adult Bible studies, special needs students, parenting, marriage, homeschooling, and other topics that would not typically apply to a student.

Purple dot items may contain content not suited for youth.

Blue Dot

Blue dot items are resources that contain content designated to older readers and viewers. This content is not necessarily inappropriate (see Gold Star below) but is aimed at an older audience.

Gold Star

Items marked with a star indicate there is content to be aware of. Think of this like a PG-13 rating. These items may contain complex content or themes such as war, human trafficking, prostitution, slavery, etc. There also may be foul language or inappropriate images.

In the case of Gold Star movies, they are included in the library not for entertainment purposes, but for educational uses because they are either based on a historical event or are an adaptation from a book. Please use your own discretion.

We recommend Plugged In and Redeemed Reader as sites for researching possible content.

All movies not marked with a dot or star are intended to be family friendly entertainment.
