Adding Timeline Figures to Notebooking Pages
When I created a timeline notebooking page for our homeschool history notebooking binders, I figured out this simple trick. Rather than printing off three sets of timeline figures (one for each student) and then gluing the images onto each page, I decided to copy the timeline icon for that day’s lesson right onto the notebooking page.
This makes a lot less cutting and pasting. It creates less waste. Plus, the final product is much more clean and simple and in the end I can use the icon for our family timeline on the wall. Follow the instructions below and I’ll show you how!
You can find the printable timeline notebooking pages at the end of this post along with more information on how I put together our notebooking binder.
Adding Historical Timeline Figures to Notebooking Pages
We are using timeline figures from Homeschool in the Woods for building our timeline both in the wall of our classroom, and in our timeline binders.
Make a Master Copy
First, print off a copy of the timeline notebooking page. Since there are several formats to choose from you may like to print all of them off for use as your “master copies”. Plan to keep these pages in the front of your teacher binder or with your timeline figures, somewhere they will be secure from wrinkles but also easily accessible.
Print Off The Timeline Figures
I like to prep the pages a few weeks at a time, but if you’d like to prepare a whole year at one time, then more power to you! Print off (or copy) whatever timeline figures pages contain the graphics you are wanting to use. I personally like to do this on cardstock, but regular printer paper works just fine too.
Cut Out the Desired Icons
Cut around the images that you would like to use on your timeline. These “originals” will be the ones that you put onto your wall or poster timeline. Before using them for that, we are going to use them to make the timeline notebooking pages for our student timeline binders.
Make the Student Copies
Take your original “master” copy of the timeline notebooking page, and lay the timeline figure icon in the white space between the top timeline and the bottom writing area. You could choose to tack it slightly with a bit of tape on the back, but just set them together. Transfer the master page and icon to your copier/printer and place them face down on the scanning glass. Make the number of copies you need. Once finished, return the “masters” to your binder and prepare to add the timeline figure icon to your classroom timeline.
*note: if your child requires more writing space that the few lines provided on the front of the notebooking page, you can print additional lines on the back.
